Procedure Details for Neck Lift with Local Anesthesia
A neck lift with local anesthesia takes 4-6 hours to complete. Dr. Mesa employs the most refined techniques and will talk to you during the procedure to ensure that you are comfortable. He will create an incision underneath the chin, separate the skin from the fat and muscle, and cut underneath the muscle layer. He will cauterize as he splits the muscles to ensure that there is no bleeding. He will then remove the fat pad from underneath the muscle, trim or remove excess muscle, and stitch the muscles into a corset. Next, Dr. Mesa will create an incision behind one ear, separate the skin from the tissue layers, and use stitches to pull the muscle up. This process will be repeated on the other side of the face. Liposuction is then used to remove excess fat. Dr. Mesa works in a manner to ensure minimal scarring. During all of this, the patient will be painlessly awake, even able to speak.
Recovery
Because no IV sedation or general anesthesia is used, after the procedure you will be able to stand up, walk, change clothes, and go home. You will be provided with full aftercare instructions, and Dr. Mesa will be closely monitoring your progress with several follow-up appointments.
Plan on taking 2-4 weeks off of work or other activities. You can expect some swelling and bruising, which will typically last about one week. You must avoid any vigorous physical activities for six weeks.
