A lip lift can produce an enhanced look to your lips that looks attractive and natural. If you feel your upper lip is too long or you’ve lost the lip structure you had in your younger years, a lip lift may be the ideal surgery for you. The procedure is customized to reflect your unique lip structure and the level of enhancement you envision.

Why undergo a lip lift?

A lip lift can create a subtle yet beautiful change in your overall facial appearance. The procedure can:

  • Shorten the distance between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip
  • Create a more attractive “tooth reveal”
  • Create a more sensual pout
  • Create a more appealing and defined Cupid’s bow
  • Take years off your appearance
  • Eliminate the need for multiple injections with fillers
  • Create a more youthful facial balance

Who is a candidate for a lip lift?

A lip lift can be performed on people of all ages — from their 20s and into their 80s. The ideal lip structure is balanced, full, plump, and has a defined Cupid’s bow. If your lips have lost volume over time or your mouth sags at the corners giving you a less friendly, approachable look, you should discover what can happen with a lip lift performed by Dr. John Mesa. He has offices in NYC, New Jersey, and Miami where he can perform your lip lift as an outpatient, in-office procedure.

What does the procedure entail?

For many patients, a lip lift will involve removing a small section of skin and tissue from below the nose and re-attaching the skin, which creates a natural lifting effect and causes more of the pink inner lip to show. The incision line is directly below the nose structure, hidden from view once healed.

Does a lip lift leave a scar?

Any incision will leave a scar. The visibility of the scar is a direct reflection of the finesse with which your procedure is performed. Dr. Mesa employs a meticulous suturing technique, and the scar will become virtually invisible. As it is directly beneath your nose, it will be almost invisible.

What is the recovery time after a lip lift?

After your procedure, you will be able to return home. Expect some minor swelling in the first few days, which will rapidly fade. It is unlikely that you will need prescription pain medication. You should stay comfortable by simply applying ice packs and taking Tylenol®. Stitches are removed in about a week, and the scar will initially appear as a red line which can be camouflaged with makeup. As the days and weeks pass, the scar will fade into a thin white line which is virtually impossible to see. After about a week to ten days of recovery, you will be free to engage in social events and show off your plumper, more alluring lips.

Why choose Dr. Mesa?

Although a lip lift is a minor surgical procedure it still requires great precision and top-level skills. Dr. Mesa is a Harvard-educated, triple fellowship-trained plastic surgeon who has achieved acclaim for his outstanding work in plastic surgery. Your lip lift will be performed with finesse, precision, and a focus on delivering the most attractive, natural-looking outcome.
