Droopy, hanging eyelid skin can begin to develop as early as your 30s, becoming more and more prominent as the years pass. No matter how youthful your overall facial appearance, when you have excess skin on your eyelids or heavy bags beneath your eyes, you will look tired, older, and less energetic. A customized eyelid surgery in NYC by Dr. Mesa can help you look refreshed, youthful, and vibrant.

What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, or in medical terms, blepharoplasty should never be a “one size fits all” procedure. Every detail of your facial structure, skin quality, and appearance must be thoroughly analyzed when planning surgery. When under the care of Dr. Mesa, you can expect a refreshed, healthy appearance — not a “deer in headlights” look. Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lids to create a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

How is eyelid surgery performed?

Upper eyelid surgery is performed to remove droopy excess skin, which in extreme cases can impact your vision. (If your vision is affected, health insurance may cover the cost of the procedure.) The surgery involves removing excess skin and bulging fat from the upper eye region. The incisions are placed in the natural crease of your upper eyelid, and once healed, are virtually invisible. A tiny quantity of eyelid skin is removed. The care with which this procedure is performed is of the utmost importance.

Dr. Mesa takes a very precise approach when performing blepharoplasty in NYC. With upper eyelid surgery, he takes utter care to produce results that his patients love: refreshed and natural-looking. For lower eyelid surgery, the most common problem is a puffy look beneath the eyes. A tiny incision is created just below the eyelash line. It may be necessary to re-position the fat to resolve a deep tear trough. This custom procedure can significantly improve your overall facial appearance if you have heavy lower lids, an excess of fat or muscle, or deep, visible tear troughs.

Before & After Blepharoplasty

What can I expect during eyelid surgery?

You will need only local anesthesia for this in-office procedure. You will not experience any pain during the surgery, but should arrange for another person to drive you home afterward. There is very little discomfort associated with healing, which takes about ten days to two weeks.

Am I a candidate for blepharoplasty in NYC with Dr. Mesa?

To be a good candidate for blepharoplasty in NYC with Dr. Mesa, you should be in good general health, a non-smoker or willing to quit, and have a full understanding of the surgery, recovery, and what to expect in results. If you have any of the following aesthetic conditions, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery. This custom procedure can resolve any of the following:

The swelling and bruising typically fade after two weeks. Get plenty of rest, eat healthy foods, avoid alcohol, and avoid stressing your eyes by working on a computer, reading, or other similar activities that could strain your eyes. Stay out of the sun entirely, or if you must go out, wear sunglasses and a hat.
